Kylie Minogue - Eden Sessions Review
Following eighteen years of the Eden Project welcoming amazing entertainers to their Eden Sessions stage, it was a wonderful boost to their Cornish and Westcountry audience when they announced that the Queen of Pop Kylie Minogue was to perform there. So much so that both evenings were booked out within minutes of the tickets going on sale.
As usual, the tickets for Eden Sessions allowed holders to visit the world famous Eden Project's biomes and we did this during the day of the concert. The sun shone brightly, the biomes were truly enticing and the experience of seeing the rainforest conditions and plants in one, and the Mediterranean climate and plants in another, is amazing; along with so much information about climate change and the earth's progress that we could not take it all in and another visit is essential. So following this it was great to be able to remain at Eden, have a meal in one of the many restaurant areas, then walk leisurely down to the forthcoming Kylie 'Step Back in Time' concert.
The standing area around the stadium filled more quickly than other Eden Sessions we've attended, with nearly all the 6,000 plus audience in place to see Kylie's supporting act, Scottish singer/songwriter Nina Nesbitt. Nina's set started right on time and accompanied by drums and electric keyboard she performed many of her own songs, such as The Best You Had and The Moments I'm Missing, along with an original version of Britney Spear's Toxic. Full of thought-provoking lyrics her own songs are worth listening to and it is sometimes a shame that the highly electronic backing takes prominence over these. When Nina simply plays her acoustic guitar and sings, her lyrics become very tangible and full of emotion. She introduces her songs and talks easily with the audience with her lovely Scottish voice, and her set was a great lead up to Kylie's.
Kylie Minogue arrived at the Eden Sessions one day on from her very successful and emotional set at Glastonbury, but her performance did not reflect any sense of becoming weary; in fact she burst onto the Eden stage full of energy and kept this up throughout the entire evening's performance of all the greatest hits throughout her career to date. From the introduction of Love at First Sight to the finale of Spinning Around, Kylie was consistently perfectly pitched and always on time with the dance moves. There are just so many Kylie songs we all know: I Should Be So Lucky, Better the Devil You Know, On a Night Like This, I Can't Get You Out of My Head, Hand on Your Heart. . . the list goes on and often reflects remembered periods of our own lives. There was a lovely rendition of the absorbing Confide in Me and she produced a very passionate version of Slow as well as singing a few lines without backing of Where the Wild Roses Grow to an audience member. One notable thing about Kylie is her resonance with the audience, always in contact and thankful for both audience participation and applause.
As the evening progressed, the sun went down and the Eden biomes lit up with lights behind the stage. The atmosphere was absolutely magical - there on stage in this wonderful Cornish setting was the diminutive and glittering Kylie, a true pop superstar, a beautiful and genuinely warm and friendly entertainer singing music that we all love.
We arrived to see a superstar, we saw the incredible Eden biomes, learnt a little more about our environment and sustainability, ate healthily at the Eden tables, and were then transported from the provocative lyrics of Nina Nesbitt to the amazing and stimulating session of Kylie Minogue's Step Back in Time concert - a day to remember and a superstar starry evening never to be forgotten.
