STM Chargetree Charger Review

STM Chargetree Charger Review

Many of us have a plethora of devices to ritually charge each day. Regardless of whether you’re doing this wired or wirelessly, a knot cables, as well as having to find somewhere to rest each device as it replenishes, can certainly be a fiddle. STM have considered this and designed the STM Chargetree, retailing for £69.99. It merges three separate chargers into one and it could be the perfect space-saving charging solution for Apple users. Design

We cannot find fault with the design. Wrapped in a silicone rubber, it’s horizontally crafted to make sure it doesn’t occupy any more desk or table space than necessary. With inspiration coming from the humble tree, it branches out to charge the Apple Watch on the top tier above the AirPods on the mat base below, and the phone on the front that leans against the upright trunk of the sculptured charger. This design is hugely user friendly too, due to the fact that you can easily and quickly obtain any of your three devices from their open charging locations. Furthermore, the charging locations are uniquely spaced out, meaning heat generated from the wireless charging isn’t concentrated, something that can be a real issue with charging mats where each device sits directly next to one another which can cause them to throttle down under the high temperatures they’ve created.

A trio strip of white LED indicator lights illuminate according to which charging area is being utilised, a nice addition so you know your device has been placed correctly and is charging. Along the back of the STM Chargetree is a USB-C connection and a cable is included within the box.

The perfect solution as you sleep

Generally speaking everything begins charging after a few seconds on first contact with the Chargetree and it doesn’t matter how many devices are charging the max output never declines. It is, however, not a silent charger and has an ever so slight electrical high pitch sound when in operation; as a bedside charger it could pose a mild annoyance. Wirelessly charging the behemoth that is the iPhone 12 Pro Max via even the Apple MagSafe wireless charger takes 2hrs to get up to 80%, via the Chargetree front 10W area it takes 4hrs and this positions the STM Chargetree as a really great nighttime charger, but if you wanted a speedy afternoon battery boost, this wouldn’t be the correct means when compared to using a traditional cable. So our use case is that we pop the Apple Watch, iPhone and AirPods on when heading to bed. Upon waking up they will all be charged and ready for the taking. The convenience can’t be argued with.

Verdict

The STM Chargetree is a fantastic wireless charging solution for a desk or bedside table that admirably takes up less surface space than a horizontal iPhone 12 Pro Max and considerably less than the three separate chargers it replaces. If you want to go wireless with your charging, then this is exactly the kind of product that justifies the convenience by truly eliminating wires and connectors. We’d especially love to see STM allow the idea to grow into a Chargetree XL, that could incorporate an iPad and MacBook. Buy on Amazon
